Subscribing

By Richard Damon , 26 December 2025

Table of Contents

  1. Subscribe with a Registered Account
  2. Subscribe without an Account on the Web Site
  3. Subscribe by eMail
  4. Unsubscribing

Generally, the first step to Subscribing is to register an account (unless you already have one). While not absolutely necessary, without an account, you can not use the web site to work with your subscription, so no archive access, or adjusting your subscription (without using the mail command interface, which isn't as obvious on how to use)

There are three basic methods to subscribe to the list, with the first one being the suggested one.

Subscribe with a Registered Account

First, you need to have an Account (see instructions to make one), then go to https://lists.arlingtonlists.org and on that page click the "Sign In" link in the upper right corner (next to the Sign Up line. If you see a silhouette in that corner, you are already logged in.

You should then see a page titled "Mailing Lists", with a list of the mailing lists available (which for now is just the Arlington List). If you don't see this, you probably got into a configuration page, and should either click on the "Lists" link on the left or the "Manage Lists" link to the right.

When on the "Mailing Lists page, click on the link for the Arlington List, and that should bring you to the list information page for the Arlington List. At the top will be a description of the list and its current status of the list. followed either an archives link and subscription information, or a button to let you start a subscription. You will have the option to select a "Delivery Status" to either get messages sent to you (Enabled) or not (Disabled). You can also select your "Delivery Mode" of either:

  • Regular: (Individual emails",
  • Plain Text Digests: (fewer messages all lumped into one bigger message,
  • MIME Digests: which also lump messages together, but in a way that depends on your program you use to read them. They may all be shown as attachments.
  • Summary Digests: which are currently just like MIME digest, but may become something a bit different.

Subscribe without an Account on the Web Site

If you go to https://lists.arlingtonlist.org without signing in, you will see the same list of lists available, and if you select the list, you will get to the Info page for the list, with a Subscription / Unsubscription block below it. It begins with the option to Sign In to an existing account, or to Sign Up for a new account.

It also presents an option to sign up without an account, asking for an email address and an optional name. Without an account, you will not be able to access the archive or use the web interface to control your subscription.

Subscribe by eMail

The third option is to send an email to arlington-join@lists.arlingtonlist.org from the address to be subscribed, which will cause a subscription confirmation message to be sent with a link to confirm the operation.
